The Eden Project, which is structured as an educational trust
was established as one of the most significant projects in the
UK to celebrate the birth of the new Millennium.
It's mission
statement is 'To promote the understanding and responsible management
of the vital relationship between plants, people and resources
leading to a sustainable future for all' and aims to tell its
story in a 'Living Theatre of Plants and People'. The project
brings together plants from various climates and uses the local
environment as 
well
as
art to educate and inform visitors about the significant relationship
between horticulture and quality of human life.
At the centre
of the Eden Project is the Core. The Core houses one of the world's
biggest plant Biomes and took over two years to build at a cost
of £15M. The design is based upon the growth structure of plants
and trees, incorporating a central trunk structure and canopy
roof. The project is open to visitors all-year-round and actively
encourages tourists to be 'waste neutral', thinking more about
littering and consumption.
