Erddig Hall Photo Erddig Hall is a stately home surrounded by a huge country park, and lies two miles south of Wrexham in the north Wales borderlands.

Building of Erddig began in the late 17th century, and it was extensively remodelled when it fell under the ownership of Philip Yorke in the 18th century. The house contains a fascinating collection of family memorabilia, with the state rooms upstairs filled with portraits and impressive 18th and 19th century furnishings. Erddig Hall Photo There was a close relationship between the Yorke family - who were renowned for their eccentricity - and their servants; and portraits of the staff, with accompanying verse composed by Philip Yorke II, provide an unusual addition to the exhibits on display.

As well as the main house there are also many outbuildings to explore, including a kitchen, bakehouse, blacksmith's shop and stables. The extensive surrounding parkland contains woodland and a restored 18th century walled garden, which features a Victorian parterre and yew walk. There are many footpaths throughout the park, and if walking doesn't appeal, you can take a trip around the estate in a horse drawn carriage.
