Gortin Glen
Forest Park

Gortin Glen Forest Park Photo The Gortin Glen Forest Park in County Tyrone lies six miles north of Omagh, and is a gateway to the wild Sperrin Mountains to the east.

The Forest Park was opened in 1967, and is made up of coniferous woodland that was originally planted for timber production. The park covers a total area of 1534 hectares. A five-mile drive weaves through the forest, with the vista parks offering panoramic views of the scenic surroundings. The forest is also home to lots of wildlife,Gortin Glen Forest Park Photo including a herd of Sika deer. There are different nature trails running through the park, which start and end in the main car park. There is also a trail for horse riding and several trails for mountain biking.

The village of Gortin lies north of the park. It only has one main street, but it provides access to walking trails in the Sperrin Mountains. There are also shorter walks around the town and along the riverbank. Just to the south of the Gortin Glen Forest Park is the Ulster History Park, which is filled with replicas of buildings dating from as far back as prehistoric times. The Ulster American Folk Park is also reachable by a day's walk along the route of the Ulster Way.
