Maritime Artefact Photo The Harbour Museum is a small traditional maritime museum and gallery that lies near the Guildhall in Harbour Square, in the city of Derry.

The museum examines the maritime and river history of the city (which lies on the banks of the River Foyle) and the surrounding area. It is housed in the former Victorian building of the Londonderry Port and Harbour Commissioner's Office, which was constructed in 1882. The museum opened in 1995, and has an eclectic mixture of paintings and Harbour Museum Photo miscellaneous artefacts, including architectural drawings and early maps of Old Derry. There is particular emphasis on the emigration period of the 18th and 19th centuries, when many people left from the port of Derry for the United States.

The museum's showpiece is a replica of the 30ft vessel, known as a currach, in which St Columba sailed to Iona in the 6th century. The museum also has a real longboat dating from the 15th century, which was recovered from the River Bann. Temporary exhibitions are housed on the second floor of the building. Cruises on the River Foyle depart from Harbour Square Dock, and are a good alternative way to see the sights of Derry.
