Isles of Scilly,
UK

Situated twenty-eight miles southwest of Land's End, the Scilly Isles are an archipelago of more than 150 tiny islands and rocky islets, only five of which are inhabited.

With stunning sandy white beaches, wildflowers and seabirds, tropical gardens, rocky cliffs, hidden caves, and a large number of pre-historic remains, the isles are well worth a visit. You can go diving or sailing, take a boat tour of the islands, go seal watching, gaze at puffins, or bask in the peaceful isolation and natural beauty of the remote environment. Flower farming is one of the main industries on the Scilly Isles due to the warm climate, and fields of wild flowers (the islands are famous for narcissi) stretch along the shores.

St Mary's is the largest island (about two and a half miles by two miles) and more crowded than the other islands. You can discover the history of the islands in the Isles of Scilly Museum, or visit the Iron Age village at Halangy Down. The second-largest island of Tresco is renowned for its luxuriant Abbey Gardens, set amid the remains of a Benedictine Abbey. The gardens contain thousands of subtropical plant species from all over the world; and you can also view relics of shipwrecks in the garden's museum.
