Museum of Welsh Life Photo The Museum of Welsh Life is a hugely popular open-air museum that is located in the 100-acre parkland of St Fagan's Castle, a 16th century manor house, four miles west of Cardiff city centre.

The magnificent museum was opened in 1948 and gives a fascinating and unique insight into how the people of Wales lived and worked over hundreds of years. 50 acres of the site is filled with a collection of over 40 buildings that have been salvaged from all over the country and relocated to the park;Museum of Welsh Life Photo including farmhouses, cottages, shops, an 18th century whitewashed chapel, a Victorian school, and a Workmen's Institute.

You can wander in and out of the buildings at leisure, and the museum comes alive with people dressed in costume, and craftsmen demonstrating their skills. With everything from a recreated Celtic village to an energy-efficient 'House of the Future', there is no shortage of exhibits. Particularly impressive are the Rhyd-y-car ironworkers' cottages, each of which has been furnished in the style of a different period, which come from Merthyr Tydfil and date from the beginning of the 19th century. There are also indoor exhibitions, a shop and a restaurant; and the museum holds lively folk festivals throughout the year.
