Isle of Anglesey Photo From the soaring, rugged peaks of Snowdonia to the pristine beaches of the Lleyn Peninsula and the Isle of Anglesey, from the staunchly Welsh towns and villages of the northwest to the anglicised seaside resorts of the north coast, the region of North Wales is a land of vast contrasts.

Snowdonia National Park, the UK's second largest national park and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, covers 840sq miles and spans an area stretching from the north coast down to Cardigan Bay in the south,Caernarfon Castle Photo and as far west as Bala. Encompassing most of the highest mountains in Wales, as well as forests, moorland, precipitous cliffs and waterfalls, glacial lakes and stunning coastline, Snowdonia is undoubtedly the crowning glory of Wales.

On Wales' north coast, the traditional Victorian seaside town of Llandudno is the most attractive resort, while on the east coast, Barmouth is a great spot for relaxing on the tranquil beaches of Cardigan Bay. For remoteness, you can't beat the unspoilt coast and sandy beaches of the Lleyn Peninsula and the Isle of Anglesey, while nestled within the green valleys and hills of the Borderlands, picturesque Llangollen has been popular with holiday-makers for centuries. Steeped in history, North Wales is also home to many ancient sites and prehistoric remains, as well as the mighty medieval castles of Caernarfron, Harlech, Beaumaris and Conwy.
