Palace Stables Photo The Palace Stables Heritage Centre is housed in the restored Georgian stables and courtyard of the old Archbishop's Palace, in the city of Armagh.

The palace, which lies to the south of the city centre off Friary Road, was built in 1770 by Archbishop Robinson, and inhabited by subsequent archbishops up until the 1970's. In the stables is a captivating exhibition illustrating a day in the life of the palace during the late 18th century, with guided tours providing a commentary and furtherArmagh Friary Photo details. Costumed characters re-enact various aspects of traditional Georgian life, and also offer information to visitors. There are recreated period rooms, such as a tack room and coachman's kitchen, for an insight into the living conditions of the time.

Guided tours include a visit to the private 18th century chapel next to the palace, and lead through the beautiful grounds, which contain a sensory garden, as well as an ice house and servants' tunnel. At the entrance to the grounds are the ruins of an old Franciscan Friary church, which was founded in the 13th century but destroyed in the 1500's. The site also has an adventure playground for children, a cafe, and a gift shop.
