Wales location map
Pembrokeshire,
South Wales, UK

Barafundle Bay Photo Most of Pembrokeshire encompasses the lovely Pembrokeshire Coast National Park - the UK's only predominantly coastal national park - with about 240 sq miles of beautiful sandy beaches and bays, rugged headlands, and windswept cliff-tops that are home to masses of seabirds.

Much of the coast is protected by the National Trust and contains many geological conservation sites due to the variety of rock types found in the region. The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path skirts along theTenby Photo coast from Amroth in the north to St Dogmael's in the south, passing the delightful seaside resorts of Tenby and Saundersfoot, the old-fashioned village of Manorbier, stunning Barafundle Bay, the lily lakes at Bosherton, the 6th century hermits' chapel of St Govan's, Pembroke Castle, and Carew Castle and tidal mill.

Further north, St Bride's Bay has some beautiful coastline, with cliffs, beaches and offshore islands to explore. At the westernmost tip of St Bride's Bay is St David's peninsula, where the magical tiny cathedral city of St David's is situated. The rocky outcrops of the north coast stretching along to Cardigan feel more remote than the southern coast. There are pretty beaches near Newport, and a reconstructed Iron Age fort at nearby Castell Henllys; while inland the Preseli Hills contain many prehistoric remains, such as the burial chamber at Pentre Ifan.
