The lively seaside resort of Portrush lies on the Ramore peninsula
on the Causeway Coast in County Antrim, and is a popular holiday
destination.
Surrounded
by two large sandy beaches, Portrush attracts many surfers as
well as holidaymakers, with the East Strand being best for large
waves. There are wonderful views over the peninsula from the town,
as well as scenic coastal walks. At the end of the Curran Strand
are limestone cliffs known as the White Rocks, which have weathered
to form spectacular tall arches and caves. The 55m-high Cathedral
Cave is particularly grand.
For kids there
is a 'Waterworld' by the harbour, and an adventure playground
on the promenade. There are also lots of attractions in the Dunluce
Centre, while the Portrush Countryside Centre houses seashore
exhibitions and local natural history displays. Boat trips run
from the harbour around the Skerries, a chain of islands lying
just off the coast. The town is also home to the Royal Portrush
Golf Club, which is considered one of the best golf clubs in Northern
Ireland.
