Roe Valley
Country Park

Roe River Photo The Roe Valley Country Park lies just south of Limavady, with the River Roe running through it, in a rural part of County Derry.

The park is an isolated haven of tranquillity, with forests and deep gorges providing a habitat for wild flowers and plants, as well as wildlife and many different species of birds. The park has many walking trails along the riverside and through the woodland, while the River Roe is excellent for fishing, and is renowned for its trout and salmon. The park isRoe Valley Country Park Photo also a good location for adventure activities such as canoeing and rock climbing.

The valley was used for flax growing in the 17th century, with the area becoming known for linen manufacturing. Remains of buildings used in the linen industry can be found in the park, and there is also a restored water wheel. The park's visitor centre contains photographic displays chronicling the history of the flax industry and linen manufacturing in the local area. There is also a small weaving museum housed in a restored weaving shed, where old machinery and other artefacts are on display. The park is the location of Ulster's first domestic hydroelectric power station, which was opened in 1896.
