Ulster Folk & Transport Museum Photo The Ulster Folk & Transport Museum lies six miles east of the city of Belfast, in County Down.

The award-winning museum is one of the finest in the country. Occupying 176 acres of parkland, it recreates Irish life over the years within an atmospheric setting. The main site contains original buildings dating from the past three centuries that have come from all over Ulster, and have been reassembled as an open-air museum. The interiors of the various buildings and dwellings have also been Folk & Transport Museum Photo restored and furnished in authentic style, and staff and craftsmen dressed in period costume are on site to answer questions and demonstrate their traditional skills - which include carpentry, blacksmithing, spinning and basket weaving.

Both town and country life are represented. As well as an outdoor village, there are traditional farmhouses, with crops and livestock. Across the road from the folk museum are the transport galleries, which house the largest railway collection in Ireland. Along with the impressive steam locomotives and railway memorabilia, there are displays of aircraft, boats, horse-drawn carts, old Belfast trams, Irish-built cars, motorcycles, bicycles, and a Titanic exhibition. The whole museum is host to a range of special events throughout the year.
